As stated by the US Department of Justice, each year there are approximately 800,000 kids that go lost each year. (October 2002 report) That's on an average 2,185 children being reported missing each day.
Of these, 203,900 children were the victims of family events, and 58,200 babies were the victims of non-family abductions. So how to find people is being big issue throughout the US.
There were typically 115 children who became victims of stereotypical abduction.
A stereotypical kidnapping is one where the child does not know the person, or it may be someone they have talked as an incidental acquaintance. These people ordinarily hold the child overnight, and would shift them more than 50 miles from their residence. In worse situations they may even kill or pain the child or demand a ransom.
